We get asked a lot whether we buy collections, whether this be action figures, lego sets, pokemon cards or comic books and the answer in theory is yes, but it depends on a wide range of factors. We cannot buy every collection that comes in due to space and of course we need to have the funds to do so, however we’ll always take a look for you and will be happy to have that discussion.
If you want to discuss selling a collection please get in touch first. If you turn up with a boot full of comics we may not have time there and then to look through them.
Being an independent business we need to make sure that we’re giving a deal that is both fair to you as well as for us. Depending on the type of product we are talking about here is a guide to how we would usually figure out the best possible price for both of us:
Comics
When it comes to comic collections people usually have a lot of books they wish to move in one go so depending on how many you have we will usually pay 35p per comic, with this decreasing slightly as quantities increase. This price allows us to buy comics almost blind, looking at condition and quantity whilst not worrying too much about the individual issues as we can still recover our cost in the £1 bin even after investing the time in to sorting them and the costs of bagging and boarding every issue. We can secure boxes of mixed comics from Silver Acre comic supplies for 35p per issue using the same method.
If however you have some expensive issues, set those aside and allow us to price those individually. So if for example you have a long box of around 300 comics but you know there is a Walking Dead #1 in there. Take that comic out, let us know you have 299 comics and this one. We will offer you a bulk amount for everything else and price the Walking Dead #1 separately. Please do not pull out every single variant in the hope that they are also going to be worth a lot of money as we will not individually price a collection of 100s of comics if they are all low priced issues.
When pricing more expensive comics we will generally go by ebay sold listings to get the current market value and then pay up to 50% of this price. Again this depends on quantity and also whether we need the item. If we already have 4 copies of the Walking Dead #1 in stock we will not pay our usual price to acquire a 5th if we don’t need it.
Please note that the above price does not apply for a5 war comics such as Commando for which we generally pay a maximum of 25p per issue as we sell these as cheap bundles online. We also do not generally buy old British non-superhero comics like the Beano and Dandy.
Pokemon Cards
Any cards such as ex, vstar, full art, special illustration rares, vintage holos etc we will individually price and will usually price taking our base value from ebay sold listings to get the current market value and then divide that by half. We will pay up to that amount but this depends on quantity, quality and whether we require that item. If we already have 4 fossil set Zapdos holos in stock we will not pay our usual price to acquire a 5th if we don’t need it.
Depending on whether we need any (and we usually already have a lot of these in stock) we pay a maximum of £1 cash or £1.50 credit per 100g of cards for bulk Pokémon. We do not include code cards and energies in this weight as we do not pay for these. We are more likely to be in a position to take your bulk if you wish to take payment as a trade rather than cash.
Toys
We only sell collectable toys however if you have items such as vintage action figures, lego mini figures or funko pops or similar we will always take a look at these however, especially for the vintage toys we only have a limited amount of space available. We will usually price taking our base value from ebay sold listings to get the current market value and then divide that by half. We will pay up to that amount but this depends on quantity, quality and whether we require that item. If we already have 4 G1 Optimus Primes in stock we will not pay our usual price to acquire a 5th if we don’t need it.
Please remember that the above prices are guides, we’re always open to negotiation and will also consider trades. Please note that if you’re coming to us with a collection you are approaching us and that we need to make money from your items too as we have plenty of overheads. Whilst 50p or less for a comic might seem like not a lot we may be sitting on a collection of 1000 comics for a long time before we recover our costs from it and more importantly turn a profit allowing us to continue to run our independent store. Please don’t be offended with our offers and remember that with collectables condition is everything and age doesn’t always equal value.
