Nerd News: Elon Musk Rebrands Twitter as X

Apparently for some time now Elon Musk has spoken of creating an everything app, similar to what is used in China with the WeChat app and he has always wanted that to be called X. It looks like he might be working on making that reality by rebranding Twitter, where the iconic blue bird has now been replaced by a black and white X… I quite like the blue bird though, so we’re keeping it.

That x has even been beamed on to the side of the twitter corporate office to make it very clear that this is happening.

This is actually something which has been going on since earlier in the year but I think most of us didn’t even realise that the official name of Twitter inc had been changed to X Corp back in April, because most of us probably really don’t care what he wants to call it and whilst he wants messages to now be called x’s rather than tweets… how many people are going to follow suit? I know what I’m still calling them. Although since he kicked out third party developers like WordPress from allowing automatic posting I don’t personally use Twitter much any more to be honest.

I actually hope he doesn’t launch an everything app. It will be far too tempting for a lot of people because of how convenient something like WeChat is, but it gives a hell of a lot of power and control to a single company, or even a single man in the case of Elon Musk and the way he likes to run things.
