The 2022 Scream movie is the 5th instalment of the franchise, and people who know the originals and the Scary Movie franchise for that matter will see some very familiar scenes. To be fair the original was also always a little tongue in cheek so it’s nice to see that it hasn’t got too serious, and is equally nice to see Courtney Cox, Neve Campbell and David Arquette return to reprise their roles… It helps to add a level of continuity to the franchise which you so often lose when bringing out a new instalment this many years later.
Seeing these characters, the story and of course the ghost face outfit brought back to life in the modern world with modern cinematic quality is going to be a real treat for “Hollywood Horror fans”… I would say that as this genre has grown and become more popular, this struggles to fit in to the horror genre now, and it really does feel more like a generic thriller. It’s certainly a very mainstream looking movie which I think is going to be popular with the modern audiences – as for the fans of the genre who grew up with the originals, I think it’s going to be a nice shot of nostalgia but nothing much else.
Am I never the less looking forward to seeing it? I guess I am!
