Do Funko Pop Figures Have Brains or Other Things Hidden in their Head?

If you’ve got tik tok certainly you will have seen this trend before if you follow anything to do with Funko pops, and it has also come up on Youtube on several occasions… People cut the tops of the heads off Funko pop figures to reveal that there is a brain inside… Or in some cases like some of the Fortnite pops they cut the top of the head off to reveal a clear poly bag filled with loot.

Is there really stuff inside your Funko Pops?

Do Funko Pops really have a brain inside?

No… Sorry.

It’s just something which was started as asocial media prank, and I have to say it’s a good one! Those pops look really cool and some people put a lot of effort in to placing good looking brains in these figures without too much damage. I can see why so many people are convinced that this is real, but I’m afraid that it’s not – and if you want to double check this, you don’t have to go to the extremes of cutting your Funko pop in half or scalping it!

Stop destroying your pops and risking cutting a thumb off at the same time. If you really want to check inside a Funko pop to see if it has a brain, just put the figure in hot water for a couple of minutes and hey presto! The vinyl has softened and the head can just be popped off – seriously, it comes off really easily and if you can’t get it back on, don’t panic and just heat it up again.

Once the head is off you can look in to the hole left by the stem attaching it to the body to see that Funko pops don’t have brains, don’t contain loot in plastic bags and don’t have pocket pops inside their heads!

Have a close look at some of these videos and you’ll soon see that when there’s stuff in the head its often packaged differently and in the case of the fortnite loot (as soon as I find it again I’ll post it here but you know what its like on tik tok – you see a video once, forget to like it and then its gone for ever!), the bag in this Funko was actually from a Jazwares Loot Crate or a Pokemon Company Poke Ball inside a 10 inch Cubone pop – you think Funko would be doing that as a nice surprise for you? When it comes to the brain, they always seem to be different! Different colors, sizes, designs etc… Some are very good and others not so much. I think if this was genuine then there would be some sort of consistency.

If you really need convincing that if you know what you’re doing it’s not THAT hard to put something inside a funko pop and make it look good again then nothing shows this better than when people put food inside of Funko pop heads… Like beans inside a Mr Bean (we’re talking loose baked beans here) and a sushi roll inside Squidward from Spongebob – I think you’d soon smell something was up!

Check out Funky Funko on YouTube for plenty more videos like this! Just don’t use his techniques for opening stuff – I worry about his fingers every single video – that Pokemon one with the angle grinder!

So what IS inside a Funko pop head?

Funko pops are made from vinyl which is produced in a way which makes a vinyl shell of a figure which is hollow inside which helps with the weight and also the semi pliable texture of the figure. There are some figures which have extra support or weight added in to portions of the head, which would be just more vinyl from the mold and from time to time you may even hear a rattle in the head.

Don’t get excited just yet yelling at me that I’m wrong! Go ahead and pop that figure in some water if you’re that desperate to check… Some times during the production process small pieces of vinyl may be cut or come loose or drop in through the stem opening. These bits of vinyl are then stuck in there and have a bit of a rattle around.

This is actually exactly how this trend started – a prank based on this rattling in some pops.

Plus its a pretty good way for customizers to show off what they can do right!

So there you have it – There is nothing inside a funko pop head other than space and maybe some spare vinyl… Funko Pops do not have brains, and if you ever feel the need to check it, there are far safer ways to do so than to use a box cutter, hacksaw, belt saw or bread knife!

Stay safe!

Still Unsure?
