Nerd News: Wakanda is Moving in on Disney+

Of course we already have a lot of amazing Marvel content on Disney+ and a lot of it is being turned in to streamed series in the same way that the Star Wars franchise is, so it’s no wonder to see this announcement being made, and I am sure it will be a welcome addition to the channel.

It is part of a 5 year exclusivity agreement signed between Disney and Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media Company. Coogler was the writer and director of the 2018 Black Panther movie and looks to be spearheading this new venture which is likely to be worked on once Coogler completes writing for Black Panther 2, having stated that the first movie was a dream come true moment. However the new Wakanda based series isn’t the only place where we will see Proximity have a hand as Coogler has revealed that they are also getting involved with other Marvel projects – perhaps as crossovers between those shows / films and the new Wakanda extension to the streaming universe?

In his statement about growing with the audience it sounds like we can see the world of Wakanda really expand on our screens with plenty of stories to be told:

“As avid consumers of television, we couldn’t be happier to be launching our television business with Bob Iger, Dana Walden and all the amazing studios under the Disney umbrella. We look forward to learning, growing, and building a relationship with audiences all over the world through the Disney platforms. We are especially excited that we will be taking our first leap with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and their partners at Marvel Studios where we will be working closely with them on select MCU shows for Disney+. We’re already in the mix on some projects that we can’t wait to share.”
